Vẹtus Latina
 
[v-; lateinisch vetus »alt«, latina »lateinisch«] die, - -, Sammelbezeichnung für altkirchliche lateinische Bibelübersetzungen aus dem Griechischen (Neues Testament und Septuaginta), die in fragmentarische Form besonders in Afrika, Italien und Spanien in Umlauf waren. Eine der bedeutendsten ist die Itala. Seit dem 5. Jahrhundert (Hieronymus) wurden diese älteren Übersetzungen durch die Vulgata verdrängt. Die Vetus Latina wird seit 1949 vom Vetus-Latina-Institut (gegründet 1945) der Abtei Beuron herausgegeben.
